Guinea Pigs As Pets
If you want guinea pigs as pets, talk to a breeder; he should be able to find you a healthy one; you may wish to purchase a chick instead.
These animals are omnivores. In the wild they feed on a range of grasses, seeds, weeds, bugs, grubs and fruit. Their diet should also contain Vitamin C as they can not produce their own. Therefore, their vitamin-fortified food is always required. A vitamin supplement is recommended for the young cavies and for animals that suffer from stress. Daily supply of fresh water is also necessary. These animals are comparatively healthy; however, if you notice such signals as stuffy nose, watery eyes, laying around, drinking excessively, not eating, and breathing heavily, you should immediately consult your vet.

Guinea Pigs As Pets -
breeder, chick
Cavies do best as indoor pets, preferring an average room temperature of 65 to 75 degrees. In comparison with rabbits, cavies do not do well outdoors and do not eat as much as rabbits. These animals have to be fed twice a day. They should eat every day in the morning and in the evening. Standard food for these animals is made of pelleted alfalfa with other grains. If you want your animal to be healthy, you should provide it with the fiber, vitamins and minerals they require. Always make sure that you feed your animal fresh products.
