Just like any animal these creatures can have health problems. A nervous animal can jump out of your hands and break his legs or back. If your pet has diarrhea, difficulty in breathing, hair loss, excessive water drinking, lack of appetite or activity or any other health problems you should immediately consult the veterinarian. A cavy can also be a source of allergy. People who are allergic to the hair and/or dander of the species should avoid keeping these animals as pets. Here are some signs of the allergy: itchy eyes, sneezing, runny nose, persistent cough, and shortness of breath, wheezing, a skin rash, and anaphylactic shock (a true medical emergency.)
