Another good way of purchasing a cavy is to purchase it from a rescue organization. Many cavies, as well as other animals, unfortunately become abandoned or homeless through no fault of their own every year. Every animal is examined thoroughly on their arrival to a rescue house. Not only animals' health is examined, but their temper as well in order to ensure their suitability as a pet for a new owner. Depending on the rescue organization, you may be asked to complete a series of forms, be interviewed or even receive a home visit. All these precautions are taken to ensure the correct placement of the animal in its care with a suitable new owner. Guinea pig adoptions are fairly common; this rodent is a very popular family pet; not many rodents attain the same popularity.
