These animals originate from South America where the natives used the species as a source of food and it is still considered a delicacy there. Nowadays, they are cute and funny pets. Cavies are rather easy to care for, inexpensive to keep, however they do require frequent cage cleaning and companionship. They are good as inside pets and don't need to go out daily and they can be left alone for the whole day unlike dogs. They eat little and can be handled easily, unlike rabbits. Adult animals reach a length of 25-36 cm. and have a broad head. The best source of guinea pig facts is a breeder; breeders are well-rounded and knowledgeable chaps.
