Male Guinea Pigs

These animals are rather social and should be kept in pairs. It is better to keep two females or a neutered boar with a sow. These animals use various sounds as means of communication. A loud squeal may be an in danger warning. Squeaks, grunts, and coos are the sounds of contentment and pleasure. The low constant rumbling rattle is a sexual behavior. The “week” is a noise that means that the animal needs attention or it may be hurt. The angry chattering shows anger. If the animal is rising up with legs stiffened or showing teeth, it means threatening.

Male Guinea Pigs -

They are called boars, whereas the females are usually called sows. Although the birth rate peaks in the spring, these animals are capable of reproduction throughout the year. They reach sexual maturity early, at two-three months. The gestation period is 60-72 days. Boars usually protect the female when she is giving birth because immediately following birth, she has a postpartum estrous that will last for only about a half of a day. The dominant male then mates with the female and continues to protect her to keep other males from mating with her.
