Animals of this type are still found in the wild in Brazil, Peru, Argentina, and Uruguay. It is thought that they arrived in Europe in the nineteenth century. These animals are easy to house, they have few diseases, and very little odor. They have rather compact bodies, short ears, and no tail. Adult animals are about 10-14 inches long; they weigh 1-3 pounds. Rodents of this type have very long hair. Coat of these animals comes in a wide range of colors. If you decide to buy a cavy, it is recommended to buy a short haired breed. It will be much easier to groom a short haired cavy than a long haired one.
